Fresh Week Day 2

fresh-week-logo

Today marks day 2 of fresh week and I am handing the blog over to Mini Gourmand as she has been cooking at school today and therefore dinner has been prepared by her hands so it’s only fair.

At school today we made bolognese. It was fairly straight forward for me as I’ve made it before and I felt clever that I was making tonight’s tea so I was looking forward to tasting it.

Ingredients

500g of minced beef/quorn.

1 red pepper.

3 small mushrooms.

1 carrot.

1 white onion.

2 cloves of garlic.

2 tbsp tomato purée.

1 tin of chopped tomatoes.

2 shakes of Italian herbs.

So all we had was some instructions on the board with no demonstration we just had to get on with what we thought was right.

Step one: Chop up the vegetables: finely evenly chop the pepper, mushroom, garlic and onion and add each to the pan.(the onion and garlic first)

Step 2: After the vegetables have had a good sauté, add the minced meat and cook until brown and looks cooked.

Step 3: After the mince and vegetables are fully cooked add your tomato purée and chopped tomatoes. Then after two minutes add your seasoning.

Step 4: Leave the sauce to simmer and cook for a extra 20 minutes on a low heat and then its ready to serve.

Lucie’s Bolognese looked delicious so I thought I would make some garlic and herb potatoes to go with the dish.

Fresh Week Day 1

fresh-week-logo

Today marks day 1 of fresh week, I’ve actually made a couple of things in advance purely to save time as I don’t often get to spend as much time as I would like in the kitchen at the moment due to Baby Gourmands feeding times.

tuna pasta

Lunch today was Tuna Pasta (I made a similar dish here) I made enough for a pasta bake for Dinner one evening so this will be frozen until needed.

Dinner this evening was a Red Onion, Olive and Goats cheese tart made using left over puff pastry from the freezer (I made a similar one here)  The salad was quite simple and was a good chance to use up some tomatoes and cucumber that I had in the fridge.

Mini Gourmand is not a fan of goats cheese so had Chicken and Potatoes cooked in the Tefal Actifry with steamed broccoli.

Apple Crumble

I made an apple crumble for dessert but had to use 1 processed item which was Alpro Soya dairy free custard as home made custard is too rich for my stomach.

veg box

The majority of what my family eats is cooked from scratch but I do admit I sometimes find it easier to pop into Marks and Spencer for a cake or a loaf of bread rather than make my own from time to time.

I have received a great selection of fruit and vegetables from Riverford Organics to help me with my pledge and although I don’t like to menu plan I do have some great meals up my sleeve.

If you have already pledged and are stuck for meals or just want some fresh eating support why not pop over to the Tefal Facebook page or like Tefal on Twitter.

From the 13th May I will be posting my daily meals and some recipes to give readers inspiration, why not take a look at my fellow Tefal Innovation Panelists pledges?

Tefal Innovation Panel

tefal Innovation Panelist

Last week Baby Gourmand and myself made our way to Windsor to visit the Tefal offices, I had been selected along with 11 other bloggers to be part of a new panel thanks to Mumsnet. (I even get a shiny badge, see above).

The day started out with a presentation about the brand, history and previous advertising campaigns (Remember the Scientists?)

Before my visit I thought I knew a great deal about the brand as the products featured in my home throughout my childhood and it is a brand I continued to purchase once I got my own home.  In reality apart from my product knowledge I actually knew very little about the brand, for instance I didn’t realise the products were made in France and not Asia, I didn’t know Tefal is present in 120 countries and that the brand originated in the 1950’s thanks to frenchman Marc Grégoire and his non stick coating.

We were then taken through into the kitchens to learn about some of Tefal’s products, I own a couple of Tefal frying pans and have recently purchased the Jamie Oliver bakeware set although the box is sitting unopened in my cupboard at present.

Tefal Cookware

Marketing Manager Stefan Kaczmarczyk explained that Tefal’s first non-stick frying pan was developed in 1954 which was surprising to me as I thought the invention of non stick cookware was a much later invention.

The Tefal thermospot which works by indicating when your pan is at the optimum temperature for cooking to begin was introduced in 2000.  A demonstration was performed on two frying pans, the first involved frying an egg without any oil to show how great the non stick coating was.  The second demonstration and probably the most interesting for me was when milk was burnt in a pan and easily cleaned with out any excessive scrubbing.

madras collection

Readers may be interested to know that Tefal have developed a new range of pans called the Madras Collection which features a Kadai and Chapati pan!

actifry

The next product shown to us was the Tefal Actifry.  Product Manager Andre Silva explained that the Actifry was the world’s first low fat fryer, 4 million of this product have been sold worldwide.  I was supplied with my own Tefal Actifry to use at home so expect to see it used in future blog posts!

fresh express

Product Manager Maria Montero talked us through the Tefal Fresh Express which can shred, slice and even grate in seconds.

Tefal are calling on the public to ditch their convenience meals in favour of fresh ingredients at meal times, I will be receiving my own Fresh Express and an organic vegetable basket so I can make some delicious family meals to share with my readers.

I have already signed up to pledge and would love my readers to do the same by visiting here, by making your pledge you will have the chance to win your own Fresh Express and Vegetable box.

Tefal Madame Gourmand

During the day Baby Gourmand was very well behaved but started to get a little restless as the day went on, I like to think it’s because he can’t eat food yet and was angry that he was in a room full of the stuff! He wouldn’t be a Gourmand if this wasn’t true right?

frying pan herbs tefal pan

I was provided with a fantastic goody bag to take home which included a Tefal Frying pan, one egg pan and an array of herbs and spices. All of these items will feature on future blog posts along with the Tefal Actifry and Fresh Express.  I also received a Tefal Steam Generator Iron but that will feature on my Lifestyle blog.
